7.3 ø Cancellous Screws: The main indication for using cancellous screws is when the cortex is thinner than 3.5 mm. The short threaded screws (16 mm) are used for fractures of the femoral neck in adolescents; separated epiphysis and for certain fractures of the tibial plateau. The long threaded screws (32 mm) are used for fractures in the vicinity of joints. The head has a hexagonal socket and the screw is inserted by using screwdriver.
